Leivi is a superb buen retiro for those who wish to explore Liguria and the Tigullio… from the hills. Rupinaro streams, a strategic position between the sea and the Pianura Padana – historical documents narrate the economical and military links of Leivi with the Po valley.From the highway exit of Chiavari a rapid gentle ascent will take you to the village.

A stone’s throw from the coast of the Tigullio – and a handful of kilometres from the Cinque Terre – the amenity of Leivi unravels its enchantment on full display along the “sentiero delle cinque torri” (five towers trail), which connects five towers (four are bell towers) in a suggestive route (five –hour walk and a height difference of 250 metres) among rural churches and fortified buildings.

Olive oil and hazelnuts feature among the trademarks of the area. 

Hazelnuts are celebrated by a feast (1st Sunday in August) in the woods of the hamlet of San Lorenzo. Oil do rule as the king of the area, its flavour elegant, fruity and velvety, fit to match a thousand recipes (from basil pesto to focaccia) and dishes (fish, vegetables, salads). The prize for the best extravirgins from the Tigullio and the rest of the province takes place on the last Sunday in July.
